Great Barrier Reef Islands from Daydream Island to Brampton Island

The Great Barrier Reef islands in the central area of the Reef are known as the Whitsundays. They include islands from Daydream to Brampton. To the south along the Capricorn Coast are the islands from Great Keppel to Fraser. We will look at them in detail in the next 2 pages.
Cook passed through the passage on Sunday, 4th June, and it being Whit Sunday, he named the passage Whitsunday. Whitsunday Coast leads to the 74 spectacular islands that make up this group. This group forms the largest island chain in the Great Barrier Reef Islands, and is the closest access point off the Queensland coast to the Great Barrier Reef fish.
The reef is just as spectacular, the waters still the glorious emerald, sapphire and turquoise, and the reef fish, just as colourful. These islands provide some of the best of Australian beaches.Keen photographers have an excellent opportunity of taking some beautiful coral reef pictures. Proserpine is the administrative centre for the National Parks, coast and the central islands of Whitsunday Passage.
Airlie Beach, on Pioneer Bay and surrounded by the beautiful Conway State Forest, would be just about the centre of the Great Barrier Reef. Stop for a swim in the Airlie Lagoon on your way to Shute Harbour, one of the boarding points to the islands. You can charter your own boat if you choose and go Whitsunday Island Hopping. Drive to the top of Coral Point for some spectacular photos of the harbour, and some of the other Great Barrier Reef Islands.
Only 8 of the 74 central islands are developed to any extent and the 10 resorts on those islands offer something to suit everyone, from eco-friendly to pure unadulterated luxury. Whatever it is you require, for however many people of all ages, you are sure to find it in these Islands around the barrier reef.
